LEYLAND TIGER TS7 (LOST CHILDREN CENTRE)

1937 BLACKPOOL LEYLAND TIGER TS7  SINGLE DECK BUS

The 12 Leyland Tiger TS7’s were delivered in July 1937 along with a batch of TD4 double deckers.   They were replacements for 12 Leyland Lions dating from 1928, which had begun to look very dated in comparison with Manager Walter Luff’s new purchases (To give them a new lease of life they were re-bodied as open “runabouts” the same year).

The Tigers, numbered 1-12, had similar styling to the double deck Titans which had started arriving in Blackpool earlier in the year.  They had sun roofs and curved roof windows initially, though the roof windows were plated over after a few years.

They must have been reliable vehicles, as many of them went on to other duties after their passenger carrying days were over.  Number 6 was converted to a tower wagon and workshop for the tramway system in 1957.  Numbers 7 and 8 were converted into snowploughs in 1957 and sold to the cleansing department in 1963.  Number 9, minus its engine, became one of two Lost Children centres on the seafront from 1956, whilst number 11 was used as a towing vehicle in 1956/7
