MANCHESTER COMBINATION CAR No.765

The first 25 cars of this type appeared in Manchester in 1903.   They were built by G.F.Milnes to an American design.   In total 62 were built for Manchester and 5 more were purchased second-hand from the Middleton Electric Traction Company.

They were all used on route 53 between Cheetham Hill and Stretford, as the low bridges on this route prevented the use of double deck cars.  On the closure of this route in 1930, most of these vehicles were scrapped.

After a search by enthusiasts to locate one of these vehicles for preservation, the body of No.765 was located on the moorlands above Huddersfield. The vehicle was restored over a long period and can now be seen operating in its former splendour at Heaton Park, Manchester.
