1935 BLACKPOOL LEYLAND LION LT7  OPEN RUNABOUT

The 6 Leyland Lion LT7’s of 1935 were the most distinctive of all Blackpool’s buses.   Numbered 114 to 119, they had Burlingham 34 seat bodies with Gondola type canopies over the entrance, similar to the open boat trams.

The hollow canopy in the centre could house extra batteries if the buses were to be decorated with lights for the illuminations.

They were intended for and usually worked the Stanley Park – Promenade service but were occasionally used to augment other services when required.

They survived until 1955, except number 118 which was rebuilt as a Civil Defence mobile canteen in 1941 and never returned to service.
