BISPHAM TRAM STATION

Constructed in 1932, Bispham tram station is situated on the promenade, opposite the top of Red Bank Road, where Bispham Tram Depot was located until its closure in 1966.

Because it is situated at the northern extremity of the illuminations it has always been a popular destination during the illuminations season, though its importance has declined in recent years.    It has undergone a number of constructional changes over the years, but its overall design still remains basically intact.

The importance of the station has declined in recent years with the gradual reduction both visitor numbers and tram passengers. However, Bispham is still a popular destination for extra trams put on during the summer season and illuminations.   Blackpool Transport staff still use the station for basic staff facilities during the summer season but otherwise the building is now largely disused.  For this reason the Lancastrian Transport Trust is developing proposals with Blackpool Borough Council to convert the building into a tramway and illuminations visitor centre.

The model depicts the building as it was in earlier years, with the clock still intact and the original layout of toilet facilities on either side of the main structure.
