1982 JUBILEE CAR 762 Following the success of the first Jubilee car 761, it was decided to convert a second balloon double decker. 714 had been stored in poor condition and disused for some time, so this was the car chosen for the conversion. The new car was basically similar to 761, except that problems had been found with passenger flow to and from the upper deck with the end staircases, so 762 had its staircases positioned back in the centre of the car, and an extra set of doors was placed either side of the centre as a separate exit. New bogies were made for this car, which necessitated a larger cut out in the body sides to access them. Seating on 761 had been 98. This was reduced to 90 on 762 due to the extra doors. A different type of pantograph was also fitted. 761 and 762 are both currently in service, though have both received modifications since introduction. They both now carry all over advertising which changes seasonally.
