1898 CROSSBENCH CAR (GREEN LIVERY)

1898 BLACKPOOL AND FLEETWOOD CROSSBENCH CAR 132  or SNOWPLOUGH CAR 128 (Green Livery)

The Blackpool and Fleetwood Tramroad began operation in 1898, using 10 open sided bogie tramcars ) numbered 1 to 10) built by G.F. Milnes of Birkenhead, and known as “Crossbenches” or “Racks”.   In 1920 the Blackpool and Fleetwood Tramroad was taken over by Blackpool Corporation and the cars were renumbered 126 to 135 consecutively, and carried Blackpool red and white Livery.

This kit can be made up as service car Number 128 or 132 or car 128 after conversion to a snowplough.    Cars 128 and 132 were both repainted in green/cream livery in 1933.  Both cars remained in passenger service until 1939, when they both became works cars.  128 was fitted with a snowplough, retaining its passenger number and livery.  132 also retained its passenger livery and was used for transporting the permanent way gang.  It was renumbered 6 and carried the words “Permanent Way” in one destination box only.

128 was scrapped in 1951, 132 survived until 1955, when it was also scrapped.                                                                                                                                              RETURN TO HOME PAGE
